Understand Your Workload

Email Load Calculator

Estimate the amount of work time spent reading, writing and returning to email.

Use this to estimate how much scheduled work time email consumes across a normal day or week.

How this tool works

Daily email minutes = messages read × average read/process time + messages written × average writing time + inbox checks × average check time.

How to read the result

The result is only as accurate as the averages you enter. It estimates visible email time and does not assume an additional productivity penalty.

Example

Reading 35 messages at one minute each, writing 10 messages at three minutes each and making six one-minute inbox checks produces 71 minutes of visible email time in the day.

What to watch for

  • Averages can hide a few complex messages. Use a representative week when possible.
  • Do not add a made-up distraction multiplier. This calculator deliberately reports only the explicit time you enter.

Privacy

Your entries are processed in your browser by this tool. They are not submitted to ZeroStress or stored on our server.

Limitations

Use the result as a planning aid. ZeroStress tools do not diagnose stress, anxiety, burnout or any other medical or psychological condition. Financial tools provide arithmetic and scenario comparisons rather than personal financial advice. Important medical, legal, financial, safety or other professional decisions require appropriate professional advice.

Frequently asked questions

Does checking an inbox always take one minute?

No. The default is only a starting value. Replace it with an estimate that reflects your own pattern.
