Planning Method Chooser

Choose a planning method based on the problem you are actually trying to solve rather than picking a framework by name.

Use this when you know you need structure but are unsure whether to capture, prioritise, schedule, estimate, compare options or map dependencies first.

How this tool works

The chooser asks about the type of problem: too many open items, unclear order, insufficient capacity, uncertain duration, blocked tasks, competing options or difficulty closing the day. It maps that problem to a method from the local Planning Methods Library and explains why the method fits.

How to read the result

The recommendation is a routing aid. More than one method can be useful in sequence. For example, a Brain Dump may come before an Eisenhower Matrix, and capacity checking may come after prioritisation.

Example

If you select “I know the tasks but I cannot tell what has to happen first” and indicate that some work depends on earlier steps, the chooser recommends the Task Dependency Mapper before the Priority Picker.

What to watch for

  • Choose the problem you have now rather than the method you already know.
  • Use a sequence of methods when the problem changes after the first step.

Limitations

Use the result as a planning aid. ZeroStress tools do not diagnose stress, anxiety, burnout or any other medical or psychological condition. Financial tools provide arithmetic and scenario comparisons rather than personal financial advice. Important medical, legal, financial, safety or other professional decisions require appropriate professional advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is one planning method best for every situation?

No. Capture, prioritisation, scheduling, estimation and decision comparison solve different problems. The chooser routes by problem rather than declaring one universal method.
