Purchase Affordability Checker
Compare a purchase price with the spending limit and discretionary money you define, without telling you what you should buy.
Use this when you want a quick comparison between a purchase price and a spending boundary you define yourself.
How this tool works
You enter the purchase price, the discretionary money currently available and the maximum percentage of that discretionary amount you are comfortable using. The tool calculates your self-defined threshold and shows how much of the available discretionary money the purchase would consume.
How to read the result
“Within the limit” means only that the purchase fits the boundary you set. It does not mean the purchase is financially wise, necessary or affordable after considering debt, future expenses, taxes or financial goals.
Example
If you have 1,000 of discretionary money and set a 25% personal limit, the tool treats 250 as your threshold. A 180 purchase fits that rule; a 400 purchase does not.
What to watch for
- The result is only as sensible as the discretionary amount and limit you choose.
- Do not include money needed for essential bills or obligations simply to make a purchase fit.
Privacy
Your entries are processed in your browser by this tool. They are not submitted to ZeroStress or stored on our server.
Limitations
Use the result as a planning aid. ZeroStress tools do not diagnose stress, anxiety, burnout or any other medical or psychological condition. Financial tools provide arithmetic and scenario comparisons rather than personal financial advice. Important medical, legal, financial, safety or other professional decisions require appropriate professional advice.
Frequently asked questions
Why does ZeroStress not give a universal Yes or No?
Because affordability depends on circumstances the tool cannot know. The checker compares the purchase with a boundary you choose rather than inventing financial advice.
Can I use this for credit purchases?
The tool does not calculate interest, fees, repayment risk or the effect of debt. Use an appropriate financial calculator or professional advice when borrowing is involved.
